Guidelines for safe fire handling
Consider not only the environment, other people, and animals but also yourself, and follow the guidelines for safe fire handling.
Anyone who causes a wildfire may be held responsible for damages amounting to millions of euros – regardless of age.
If you spot a wildfire, follow these steps
- Call the emergency number 112
- Warn people nearby
- If it’s a small fire just starting, try to extinguish it with water or sand – but do not put yourself in danger
- Move to a safe location if necessary
Current wildfire warnings in Finland
It is strictly forbidden to light an open fire in an area where a wildfire warning is in effect. This applies to all three danger levels, yellow, orange, and red.
